Eve after the Fall

Exhibited World Exhibition London 1851
Marble
Signed "R. Monti"
Carved by the artist ca. 1851
Height 81cm

Only two versions of “Eve after the fall” were known until now. One dated 1850, which was exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and one that used to be in the Joseph Neeld collection of Grittleton House. Our version has some differences with the other two. Besides that it is slightly smaller it features Eve in the company of the serpent. Also the flowers and the apple do not feature in the other versions.
